Spring is here, which means summer is fast approaching, time to detox and get ready for swimsuit season, something I know I am dreading. A good way to kick start the fat burning process is by following some of these easy steps, I know I need to start following them to get out of the winter blues!
Sleep – our bodies detox throughout the night, aim for at least 6 – 8 hours per night anything less than 6 hours will start to play havoc with your body the next day i.e. unnecessary cravings
Digestive herbs- Ginger, cumin, fennel, cayenne pepper & turmeric, try adding these where you can.
Drink teas – Licorice, fennel, mint, dandelion and green tea.
Eat green – and as much as you can, greens will help clean your body of unwanted toxins. Try silverbeet, spinach, kale, broccoli, cucumber, avocado. If you are struggling to add green foods to your meals try taking an added green supplement like Super Greens.
Eat alkaline – start to consume less acidic foods, (red meat, sugar, tomato, caffeine, potatos, capsicum) Chlorophyll is a great to add to your diet as it helps re-alkaline your body.
Start juicing – give your metabolism a kick start with a green juice (see below for my favorite green juice recipe), green juices are great if you have been enjoying the winter months a bit too much (I know I have). Don’t just drink juice for every meal, instead have one in the morning with breakfast or as a morning or afternoon snack.
Water – Drink at least 8 glasses (2 litres) of water a day. Water is an absolute essential as it helps flush all the toxins out of your system and keeps everything working correctly.
Green Detox Juice
225ml of water
Small handful of spinach
½ stick of celery
A dash of ginger
¼ green apple
Sprinkle of mint
Teaspoon of super greens
Blend all the ingredients together and serve.
